HIPAA Compliance & Privacy Statement
INTRODUCTION: HealthSmart understands the importance of privacy and strives to achieve the highest standards possible. Please read this statement carefully and thoroughly.
PRIVACY: HealthSmart is committed to protecting personal health information and complies with the Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”). HealthSmart has implemented procedures and polices as necessary and required by HIPAA to protect the privacy of personal health information.
ADMINISTRATIVE SIMPLIFICATION: HIPAA requires that all payors process certain transactions electronically. Such transactions must use a standard format that is considered HIPAA compliant. HealthSmart has completed all internal system changes and processes necessary to accept and handle the required electronic transactions.
SECURITY: The Security Rule of HIPAA established standards to ensure the privacy of electronic Protected Health Information. HealthSmart has implemented various administrative, physical and technical safeguards to comply with the Security Rule. HealthSmart shall continue to enhance such safeguards as technology advances.
PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION: When using the HealthSmart website, you have the option of sending feedback and/or other information via non-encrypted e-mail. If you use such web forms or e-mail links, please understand that you are submitting Protected Health Information at your own risk. The information submitted through these forms is forwarded to our employees or third party vendors to address concerns or requests in a timely manner. Due to possible security issues relating to non-encrypted e-mail, it is suggested that you call our customer service department when it is necessary to disclose Protected Health Information or any other personal information.
NOTE: Information collected during the payor and provider registration process for the Online Claim Status tool is collected over a secure website. Validation of information collected during the registration process is required during the login process.
Cookies
What are cookies? They are small files used by Internet websites to store information for that site's use. Some websites use permanent cookies to track Internet usage, while others just use temporary cookies in order to make navigation easier for their users. These temporary cookies are what we use in order to give our clients the best experience possible on our website. The Online Directory application uses session variables which install temporary cookies on the client's computer. No personal information is collected from these cookies and they are automatically removed upon your termination of the current browser session.
NOTE: If you have your browser set to not accept cookies, the Online Directory application will not work efficiently. Also, if you are a payor or provider, the Online Claim Status would be inaccessible.
